Meditation – Benefit or Revelation?

Meditation – Benefit or Revelation?

There is a soul force in the universe, which, if we permit it, will flow through us and produce miraculous results. ~Gandhi

Most people do not want to meditate, because they see no real “need” for it unless there is some “benefit” to be derived through the disciplines of meditation and conscious living. Any motivation is a thought, a desire and an emotional impulse and, hence, becomes a barrier and not a bridge to meditation. So to achieve meditation one cannot use the typical motivation of seeking BENEFITS.

Motivation is goal-oriented with its intent as some sort of “pay-off,” which is considered a “benefit.” Motivation is typically rooted in one of two categories. The first being survival (aka survival of the fittest). The second being to minimize physical and psychological pain and maximize pleasure. “Pleasure” is the code word for INDULGENCE and is considered the most important achievement of every day in a lifetime.

Meditation is inherently about the “less” that brings us the “more” of Love. Until we are willing to understand the INTRINSIC over the EXTRINSIC we will be a slave to the imagined ideals of living for obtaining the “pleasure” we believe will relive us of all the misery in our life in this world.

The INTRINSIC is the natural state of the within. Within you is the INTRINSIC goodness that is Love…you are the universe of Love itself. You are the beauty of this goodness. You do not have to make it, you do not have to believe in it, you do not have to seek it. YOU ARE INTRINSIC. Meditation is about creating the connection to the INTRINSIC. If a person does not sense the INTRINSIC within them, it is because they have been living in the EXTRINSIC, which means they have been operating from the outside to the inside.

My point here is simple: if a person needs proof of “benefit” for the effort to move into meditation they will simply NOT meditate. If you need a “benefit” for entering into meditation, if you need to be shown what “good” could happen if you do, then it is not time for you to practice meditation. Meditation is about removing superfluous emotional attachments from our attentions and then observing what is left when all of this is gone. Wisdom comes not as thought, but as the insight that allows us to recognize the obvious.

Meditation is not just one more way to reach the means of our desires. Meditation is the lifestyle of NO-THINGNESS. It is so beautiful to step away from a mind that is churning on “right and wrong” or “good and bad” and come to the place where Love is real. But who can tell you all of this in order to motivate you? Each of us has to find the Way within and at times this journey, due to willfulness and fear, becomes a long and winding road.

Put aside logic and reasoning for just a moment - set aside your plans and ideals that distract you from the more noble purposes of a compassionate lifetime and see what is left

Learn to gaze into the pauses and spaces that occur throughout the day - watch and see what is occurring in those spaces and pauses

Begin to realize the great value of meditation and what it can do for your life - it is the Life you seek without knowing it

Thank you for your constant loving reminders to “look within.” In this over-stimulated world, it is a blessing to remember there is a refuge that can be sought in any moment.
