The Winter Of Our Discontent

The Winter Of Our Discontent

It’s all a passing show. Just watch it. ~ Anagarika Munindra-Ji

First this…

Spring was never waiting for us, dear
It ran one step ahead
As we followed in the dance

MacArthur’s Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don’t think that I can take it
‘Cause it took so long to bake it
And I’ll never have that recipe again
Oh, no…

I recall the yellow cotton dress
Foaming like a wave
On the ground around your knees
The birds, like tender babies in your hands
And the old men playing checkers by the trees

MacArthur’s Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don’t think that I can take it
‘Cause it took so long to bake it
And I’ll never have that recipe again
Oh, no…

MacArthur’s Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left my cake out in the rain
And I don’t think that I can take it
‘Cause it took so long to bake it
And I’ll never have that recipe again
Oh, no…oh, no!

~ Jimmy Webb

As William Shakespeare wrote so prophetically: “Now is the winter of our discontent.” Humankind is wasting away in itself…as it’s self. We are all in this “winter.”

This phrase generally refers to a temporary state of sorrow and sadness although, in our world today, discontent runs very deep and is far from temporary. Our collective sorrow is about the loss of innocence in “we the people” of this world, and how this loss of soulful integrity affects the human condition by collectively devolving into the confines of the human stain.

The burden of human self-righteousness through ignorance, greed, lust, gluttony and laziness generates the mechanism of human survival as the only means of living for the majority of people on this earth right now. We have no interest in the “Light” that lives within us all. Precious few are much interested in the glow of the Authentic Heart due to their immersion into the cynicism of the human heart, which has become our psychological default.

Hence our discontent.

We are not here to be “happy” in the human. We are here to recognize the Way that is beyond the human. ~ Siraj

Alas, for the most part…I write and speak these words to deaf ears. My efforts, while not totally in vain, are still futile. People in this world have become galvanized within the callousness of their human intolerance, assessing everyone and everything in this world through the bias of their own Paleolithic, genetic psychology. Their only concern is how to survive at all costs and at all levels both socially and personally, which causes them to live blind and deaf to the totality of the bigger picture.

For a brief moment there was a gap, a space in this world where cunning and guile gave way to INNOCENCE for just a moment…and in a blink it was gone. A brief, glorious interlude for the emergence of the “cake” vividly created within the state of the Authentic. This “cake” offered a momentary glimpse for humankind where our focus turned toward a renaissance, a new meaning for life itself as a “possibility” contained in the Hearts of a new generation.

This “possibility” was Love. Not as emotion, but the Love that exists as the uninterrupted balance that unites the entire Universe into ONENESS – to become a part of the recipe for the Light of goodness. It was to be our fate and destiny to awaken into an energy that would propel us into Transcendence. Sadly, we could not hold this for long.

Nothing good lasts in this world. ~ Superman

Love was possible in this world, but only for a moment. It was an amazing time of constant creativity and the inward surge of restoration toward the reawakening of Authentic goodness that could have spread all over the world. The state of Loving consciousness that offered perpetual renewal over the Darwinian survival was eventually shunned and virtually extinguished. And as the insidious collective apathy, fear, hate and greed persist, we can “never find that recipe again.”

Rarely do we pay attention to the Truth of this lifetime in this world. Our contentions are assumed by our imprisoned human psyche that merely labors in the fields of fear and hate This degeneration of goodness and mercy has not only become the lifestyle of the soulless majority operating under the influence of the pedestrian mentality, it has become their whole form of entertainment.

Most people refuse to see the meaning of their lives for the sake of their own survival. What a paradox! ~ Siraj

People are willfully loyal to their ignorance, which creates a sloth in our society that has become systemic. This “sloth” is the assumed “righteousness” that the arrogant and ignorant, who cannot see beyond the mountain of their own hate and fear, abide by and use to justify their unfounded righteousness. In order to live with themselves they invent myths and stories to sustain their self-serving edicts that have nothing to do with the reality of their lives and are contrary to Authentic of Love.

The revelation of Love has yet to affect the populace. “We the people” are oblivious to Love. Through our intentional living immersed in our genetic dispositions we have become immune to the Presence of the Authentic as our Soul.

People care more about being occupied by pride than realizing the meaning of Truth. ~ Siraj

I will never forget Jeff Daniels’ portrayal of a seasoned, aware anchorman in Aaron Sorkin’s television series: “Newsroom.” These two very insightful and talented men dared to speak the absolute truth in a spell-breaking and sobering moment of reality about the ruthlessness of living without the intent of authentic goodness. The United States is the epitome of ruthless selfishness, bias, narcissism and ignorance.

Here is an excerpt of Jeff Daniels’ and Aaron Sorkin’s work. Please note, that there is no way to convey the excellence of Jeff Daniels’ delivery here. You might want to see it on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2HKbygLjJs). It is simply stunning.

To set this up for you, Daniels is an anchorman who, along with other men and women of the press were asked to comment on a question, which has been asked by a cute blonde girl at some college in front of a huge audience of young people, to answer the question: “Why is America the greatest country in the world.” Here is a paraphrased excerpt of Sorkin’s magnificent insight and writing, combined with Daniels’ brilliant rhetorical delivery:

“America is NOT the greatest country in the world, that is my answer.”

“And [speaking to the conservative panelist] with a straight face, you’re going to tell students that America’s so star spangled awesome that we’re the only ones in the world who have freedom? Canada has freedom, Japan has freedom, the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Australia, Belgium has freedom. Two hundred seven sovereign states in the world, like 180 of them have freedom.”

“And you, sorority girl…yeah, just in case you accidentally wander into a voting booth one day, there are some things you should know, and one of them is that there is absolutely no evidence to support the statement that we’re the greatest country in the world.”

“We’re 7th in literacy, 27th in math, 22nd in science, 49th in life expectancy, 178th in infant mortality, 3rd in median household income, number 4 in labor force, and number 4 in exports. We lead the world in only 3 categories: number of incarcerated citizens per capita, number of adults who believe angels are real and defense spending, where we spend more than the next 26 countries combined, 25 of whom are allies.”

“None of this is the fault of a 20-year-old college student, but you, nonetheless, are without a doubt a member of the WORST. GENERATION. EVER., so when you ask what makes us the greatest country in the world, I don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about?!”

“Yosemite?!!!
We sure used to be.”

“We stood up for what was right! We fought for moral reasons, we passed and struck down laws for moral reasons. We waged wars on poverty, not poor people. We sacrificed, we cared about our neighbors, we put our money where our mouths were, and we never beat our chest. We built great big things, made ungodly technological advances, explored the universe, cured diseases, and cultivated the world’s greatest artists and the world’s greatest economy.”

“We reached for the stars, and we acted like men. We aspired to intelligence; we didn’t belittle it; it didn’t make us feel inferior. We didn’t identify ourselves by who we voted for in the last election, and we didn’t scare so easy.”

“”And we were able to be all these things and do all these things because we were informed. By great men, men who were revered. The first step in solving any problem is recognizing there is one. America is not the greatest country in the world anymore.”

America’s patriotism is based in the myth of being ‘free.’ We are NOT free. The fact that we require a government meant to keep “we the people” from cheating, killing and disrespecting people based on race or the color of their skin speaks volumes. And the “recipe” has become irreparably corrupt. The indifferent, pedestrian mentality lives according to their ruthless tendencies that would do harm to one another for the sake of survival as well as their own emotional gratification and personal gain. We build implements of war not Soulfulness…all the while preaching the message that we are “peace-seeking” people. Our government and its people are bullies who are always looking for a battle to conquer under the guise of “peace.”

What this world needs now, what it has always needed, is the Soulfulness of its occupancy. ~ Siraj

We have no interest in our Soul and many do not believe the Soul exists or if it does, it does not need any kind of participation in our lives, because it does not feed, shelter and pay our bills. The Soul is not something that is relevant to our livingness in a country that is full of the low esteemed who seek the emotional “comfort” of adoration.

Ask yourself: how do you live in a body within a society that is Soulless by nature? What will you do? Just “go along” to get along? Does everything has to be about benefit, gain and ease of operation? Few can hear these teachings as they are more interested in how “not to suffer” rather than how to awaken. If you can truly observe and watch, you will see that your philosophy of yourself and this world is the very issue of your lifetime.

We all need to “take a knee.”

Our only true option is to Transcend this world by living boldly in Love for the sake of Love itself

There are many aspects of Life that are unavailable to the mind that is always seeking and living for survival over Love

Authentic spiritual awakening is only accomplished through innocence - the Authentic is found in simplicity not in the guile of intellect

Each of us has a Karma that we have initiated through many, many past lives, which leaves us with different states of fate and destiny

Find your own purpose in this world - seek what you are here to awaken to and do everything you can to make it possible

Meditate to invite a state of innocence and become meek, teachable and pliable to the Way
